Module 5 – March 7 2026 – Create 5 –
Science is related to dramatic play because children act out the roles of adventurers and investigators, and when they pretend to venture into a dramatic play, they find out how different components function and how they are connected. In dramatic play, children can pretend to be a variety of characters including, scientists, doctors, vets, explorers, etc. Each of these roles stimulates a child’s developing inquisitive nature, able to pay attention, and show interest and find a connection with the role playing with exploring and experimenting.
Children can:
- Pretend to be Scientists – Children use pretend laboratory instruments, jars, and magnifying glasses, to pretend to be scientists. They examine leaves, rocks, and insects.
- Veterinary and Doctor Play – Children pretend to provide services to animals and people. In the process, they learn how bodies of living things work, their health, and how they function.
- Nature Exploration – Children pretend to be explorers and go to the forests, oceans, or even outer space. In the process, they learn the different elements of exploration in the outdoors and in nature environments.
- Cause and Effect – Children learn that doing one thing will cause a particular result when they pretend to cook, mix, or do experiments.
- Observation Skills – Children observe the changes of things when the pretend to do various things (grow plants, take care of animals, and mix things to change their colors).
Dramatic play enables children to practice their scientific thinking in the areas of curiosity, observation, and experimentation, when children pretend to be scientists in a laboratory, they use a magnifying glass to examine objects and mix different things, and they ask a lot of questions.
